These rooms make a more pleasant impression if they have the right lighting. Nobody likes walking in the dark among their clothes. But it happens that we waste time moving from one room to another to assess which version of the garment suits us best.

Do you plan to allocate a place for a wardrobe at home? Or maybe you already have it, but there is no good lighting? It’s time to fix this with a few tricks that we outline below.

1. Bet on a neutral light

How to provide neutral light for your dressing room? The secret is to install a system that resembles the sun’s rays and does not cast shadows. It has to do with the color theory.

A common downside to artificial light is that your clothes take on different shades at home that look different when you go outside. However, this problem can be solved by using neutral lighting. Ultimately, white light can also be used as it is the closest to natural light.

Neutral light allows you to perceive the colors as they really are, so as not to make mistakes in the selection of clothes.

2. Use hanging lamps

Hanging lamps add elegance and effectively illuminate the wardrobe. Those with LED bulbs are perfect for large cabinets, especially those with neutral-colored bulbs.

3. Use natural light

There aren’t always windows in your dressing room, but if you’re lucky, make use of them and don’t cover them with dark curtains and thick fabrics. Let the sunlight illuminate this room.

Enhance the atmosphere of the interior by painting the walls in soft tones and choose furniture in the same range of colors. White, beige and pastels give the interior spaciousness and provide light.

4. Recessed adjustable headlights

This is a recommended alternative to direct the light towards the back of the garment and illuminate the clothes with its beam. It is recommended to install them at a distance of less than a meter between the wardrobe and the spotlights to ensure harmonious lighting and eliminate shadows from the wardrobe.

Due to their small size, spotlights give a better effect than indiscreet light bulbs located all over the room. When you arrange them according to your needs, you can place more than one light point, even from the ceiling.

On the market you will find cardan lamps (it is advisable to place them at a distance of 80 centimeters from each other) and portholes (for a distance of about 60 centimeters between the light sources).

5. Place the interior lights on the LED strips

In the cabinets, everything is better visible and differentiated by lighting from the inside. One of the popular proposals for lighting wardrobes are flexible, self-adhesive LED strips. Not only are they effective, they are also very practical, especially when there are no light bulb points.

All it takes for these tapes to work is a plug. Although there are different colors, we suggest using white for the light neutrality. In addition, LED technology saves energy, according to an article published by BBVA’s communications department.

Among the many advantages of LED strips, it is also distinguished by the fact that they can be placed on the edges of the wardrobe and inside drawers. It is the perfect type of lighting to illuminate shelves, bars and drawers.

6. Test the LED downlight

In terms of power, depending on the size of the cabinet, there is also an option known as 16 or 18 watts LED downlights . They are also used for general lighting. The less powerful ones are used as a supplement. They are designed for removable ceilings or suspended ceilings.

7. Select the lighting for the wardrobe in such a way that it constitutes an element of decoration

You need to use lamps for this trick. The table ones are perfect for applying makeup and the translucent screen screens warm up the room used as a dressing room. On the other hand, standing ones provide great lighting to look carefully in the mirror while dressing.

8. Don’t forget about mirrors, which will enhance the  lighting of your wardrobe

The dressing room without a mirror is incomplete. It is an indispensable element both in decoration and in assessing the garment. But the mirror also plays an important role in illuminating the room.

It works much better if you install a light point on each side of the mirror. Depending on how you want your wardrobe to look, choose a tall, curved, round or square mirror.

A mirror is an indispensable piece of clothing. But if it’s not well lit, it doesn’t do the job either.

Temperature and schedule: the two essentials when it comes to lighting a wardrobe

Also consider these last but no less important suggestions:

  • Choose lights of the same shade. In this way, you will ensure harmony and will not make the mistake of too cold or too warm lighting of the wardrobe.
  • Play with light spots. They can be recessed, hoops, surface panels or rail projectors. if you only choose one point, pay attention to the angle you get with this pendant lamp with LED bulbs.
  • Don’t forget the neutral light color. Only then will you be sure of the colors of your clothes at home and outside.
  • The distance between the spotlights and the wardrobe is fundamental. When not well calculated, the lamps will cast a shadow.
  • Arrange the light taking into account the conditions of your wardrobe. It all depends on the size and shape of the interior. You can use one point or several because in some rooms the wardrobe takes up a central space and in others there are independent wardrobes.

The value of specialist wardrobe lighting advice

It is likely that with some knowledge and without outside help, you will well illuminate your wardrobe. In fact, the options we presented in this article don’t take much work.

But there is never too much good advice. You can ask, for example, in lighting stores where you will find what you need for this task.

Interior decorators also have the knowledge to determine which lighting will best benefit your wardrobe. So if you feel this will give you more confidence, ask for help from those with specialist knowledge.
